After a lovely day at the Zoo I was also lucky to have a surprise few hours to paint this afternoon. I used my sketches and notes from Neutral Bay at the end of last year for some painting. This one I had already drawn onto the board when I was sitting near Hayes Street Wharf. I love these jaunty little boats swinging around. They never keep still. I have included a detail photo of my work in progress.
We took the children to Taronga Zoo today. Being New Years Eve, Sydney Harbour was crammed full of boats. The school holidays doesn’t leave a great deal of time for drawing so I took some paper and did some quick sketches at the seal show. It felt like a life drawing session with 2 second poses! Many years ago I was in a worskhop with a ballerina who danced as we drew her – it reminded me of that.
I seemed to focus on how they held their head up proudly after they had performed a trick. Our family has a soft spot for ‘Malie’.
I love trying to capture the lines of moving objects, so as we waited for the Bird Show I was interested in the little boats darting around the harbour. For some reason I lost focus when my son started blowing air on my cheek through his drinking straw. (Stop drawing and look at me mum….)
